How To Attract Your Ideal Audience With A Cohesive Instagram Feed

Staying visually consistent through all of the platforms you’re using helps create trust and recognition. When a potential client is scrolling through your Instagram feed, you want to be sure that they feel like they’re experiencing the same brand when they visit your blog or homepage. If you’re designing your own graphics for Instagram, here are some tips to help you create an authentic, polished and cohesive feed.

1) Create templates

Templates are a brilliant way to help you save time and keep you on brand. They are perfect to show inspirational quotes, blog posts, industry tips and testimonials, just to name a few! I suggest start by building 3-5 templates based on the type if content you share most often to your audience. If Photoshop is not for you, Canva is a brilliant online tool that has lots of templates that you can customise to fit your brand.

2) Choose simple, easy to read fonts

Using 1-3 fonts is a good way to keep your design looking clutter free and professional. If you have brand fonts, make sure to use these to show consistency. If not, try choosing 2 fonts that represent the look and feel of your brand and also complement the font in your logo.
Example: Try pairing a bold sans serif with a thin serif will help to create a clean, modern look. Or mix a clean sans serif and a handwritten script for a fun, trendy approach.

3) Make use of white space

Don’t be afraid to make use of white space! Instead of letting your text get close to the edge, try leaving as much white space as possible. By doing this, it makes it a lot easier for your audience to read as your feed will look less cluttered. Also, don’t be afraid to mix in some plain text on lighter backgrounds. This will build in some white space to your overall feed and creates a more open, clean look.

4) Consistency is key

It’s not essential that you have to use the same template for each post but make sure you are sticking with your brand colours and fonts to start building consistency. By using similar colours, images and fonts, you are creating a cohesive polished look on your feed.

5) Most importantly, have fun!

Don’t feel like you can’t occasionally throw something in that might feel a little off brand – there is nothing wrong with this! If you want to share a picture that is out of your usual style or use a textured background instead of a clean colour, ensure that you are keeping the font and colour theme consistent. Essentially you want your graphics to feel like they all belong to the same family – all slightly different but complement one another.
